Creating a Device Illustration for ClickStick

Project Overview

• Client: ClickStick (clickstick.io)
• Objective: Design a vector isometric illustration of the company’s hardware device, matching the existing visual style established on their main website.
• Role: Lead Illustrator

Background & Collaboration

This project marks another milestone in my ongoing collaboration with ClickStick. Having previously designed the main illustration featured on their homepage a year ago, I was thrilled when they reached out again to expand their visual asset library.

Our prior workflow allowed us to jump straight into the creative process with a deep, shared understanding of the brand’s aesthetic goals.

The Challenge

The core task was to illustrate their new physical device. While the gadget resembles a classic USB flash drive in form, it features a unique twist: a built-in miniature digital screen.

The main challenge was to:

• Maintain Visual Consistency: The illustration had to perfectly match the clean, minimalistic, and slightly tech-futuristic tone of the previous graphics.
• Highlight Key Features: Even in a stylized vector format, it was crucial to make the screen area distinct from a regular USB drive body.
• Find the Perfect Angle: Ensure the isometric perspective clearly displays the logo, the screen, and the overall ergonomics of the device.

Design Process & Iterations

The project was highly collaborative and involved several key phases:

1. Concept & Silhouette: Exploring different shading and material options to see how the semi-transparent plastic look and the screen insert would interact under isometric lighting.
2. Refining Details: Designing the ClickStick (CS) branding placement to ensure high legibility and impact.
3. Feedback Loops: Going through a few rounds of precise revisions with the client to fine-tune the color palette (the subtle purple-gray tech tones) and edge highlights.

The Final Result

The approved illustration seamlessly blends with ClickStick’s established UI environment. It cleanly highlights the device’s unique form factor—balancing the recognizable look of a USB drive with its custom digital interface—packaged into a premium, modern vector artwork.
